Tending the Winter Landscape
Class will meet on the following Saturdays from 10a to 4p:
January 23rd, February 6th, February 20th, and March 6th
This series is a hands-on, deep dive into understanding and tending place during the winter months. Participants will learn the secrets to identifying plants throughout the year and recognizing ecological features that tell the narrative of place. With these basics in mind, we will explore hands-on activities to tend the landscape while also providing ourselves with food and medicine. We will see that we can provide for our needs while also improving the landscape around us!
Class will be held at the beautiful Mahonia Land Trust just outside Oregon City, with carpools available from Portland. Folks will take home a bounty of what the land has to offer: medicinal preparations, a mushroom log, plant starts, and the know-how to better serve the landscape around us.
Skills you will learn: Winter twig ID, Ecology, Finding microclimates and planting native plants, Winter tree pruning basics, How to safely fell a tree, Tapping Maple Trees for syrup, Planting mushrooms into a landscape for food and habitat, Harvesting winter plant medicine and Making herbal preparations to new a few.
Class cost is: $500, including materials. Early bird discount: $450 if registered and paid by December 15th.

Are you looking for organic, locally grown, dried medicinal herbs and fresh roots to stock your apothecary this winter? Herbs to round out Holiday medicine making? A few more medicinal plants to fill holes in the garden? If so, we encourage you to join us for our Harvest Festival Pop-up to see what we’ve grown! We’ll be around from 11am to 3pm!
All this medicine was lovingly grown right here in Oregon City, this year, so you know you will be getting high quality! If you want to make sure we have what you’re after, we are happy to set aside pre-paid orders! Here are just some of things we will have on hand:
- All last year seed packs are just $1!
- Dried herbs of plants like: Tulsi, Calendula, Red Clover, Mullein, Oat Straw, Raspberry Leaf, Skullcap, Mint(s), Cramp Bark, Oregon Grape and so much more
- Freshly dug Roots: Elecampane, Aralia, Ashwagandha, Burdock, Angelica, Marshmallow and Valerian
- Fresh and Frozen: Milky Oats, Poplar Buds and Hawthorn Berries
- Various medicinal preparations like Tinctures and Elderberry syrup
- Magical bundles of Sagebrush and Mugwort
- Select medicinal plant starts (to be sure I bring into town what you are after contact me through the website
- Magical Minerals gathered by the kiddos and I throughout the NW
And for those of you who've been to plant sales in the past please note this is in Portland Oregon and not on the farm. There is also a flight of steps leading up to the porch where the sale will occur. Happy to bring plants down to you when you arrive!
Edible and Medicinal Plants of Conifer Forest
Saturday, April 25th from 10am to 12:30
Powell Butte Nature Park
In this pay what you can hike, we will wander the Conifer woods of Powell Butte to learn plant ID and ecology, as well as the edible and medicinal uses of the plants we encounter. Our hike will be approximately 2 miles, in a fairly flat section of the park. Bring what you need for a leisurely stroll in the forest and a curious mind.
Please note we will not be meeting at the main entrance to the park, but instead the trailhead at SE 148th There is a smaller paking lot here plus plenty of streetside parking nearby. If you are using your mapping app the address for the parking area is 4125 SE 148th Ave.
Class cost is $0-$40, no one turned away for lack of funds. Please bring cash for this sliding scale offering!
